BancorpSouth has granted UWCA $5,000 to support the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The VITA program provides free income tax preparation and filing for low to moderate income tax filers in Hinds, Madison, and Rankin counties. This program is designed to ensure households who qualify for much needed tax credits maximize their benefits, including the Earned Income and Child Tax credits.
During the 2021 filing season alone, UWCA assisted over 1600 tax filers, bringing $2.5 million in federal tax refunds back into our community. This service helped filers save $335,000 in filing fees alone.
