On July 30, 2021, United Way of the Capital Area partnered with 16WAPT for the third annual School Tools back-to-school drive. Three local Walmart stores and one local Piggly Wiggly store hosted the event. Volunteers from Nissan North America, Entergy Mississippi, Member Exchange Credit Union, Richard Schwartz & Associates, and the Clinton Christian Community Corporation (4Cs) united to collect over 4,000 items and $3,000 to support local students. In addition, a $25,000 donation from Kroger was used to purchase over 2,400 supply kits distributed to seven local elementary and middle schools as well as North Madison Excel By 5.
This year alone, families are projected to spend over $37 billion on school supplies, with the average household expecting to spend almost $850. Many households throughout central Mississippi cannot afford this level of spending, yet basic school supplies are essential in educating students across all grade levels.
If you did not have an opportunity to donate supplies, but would like to contribute to this effort, please consider giving to United Way of the Capital Area today!
